Few Guidelines
There are no two search engines that function in the same way but there are few guidelines to follow:
* Title tags should not exceed 40 characters
* Meta keywords should not exceed 1000 characters
* Meta descriptions should not exceed 200 characters
* The first 25 words of page content are the most crucial for indexing relevancy.
Algorithms and factors
These variables influence how a page is ranked in a particular search engine:
* Keywords in the <TITLE> tag(s)
* Keywords in the <META NAME="DESCRIPTION">
* Keywords in the <META NAME="KEYWORD">
* Keywords in the body copy
* Keywords in ALT tags
* Keywords in <!-- insert comments here> comments tags
* Keywords in <H1> or other headline tags
* Keywords in URL: www.keyword.com/keyword.html
Title
Include keywords that people might search for to find you in the title of all your pages. Keep common word groups
or phrases that people might search on together if you can. Most search engines put a lot of weight on the keywords
contained in the page title. The title should not exceed 40 characters. It should be a concise, one-line summary
of what the page is about. Simply putting "Welcome to our home page" won't give you a very good chance
at getting a good listing.
Meta Tags
Use meta tags and arrange the keywords in the meta tags in order of importance. Do not use the same word
within the meta tags too many times (maximum 6 repetitions). You can use different capitalization such as: Web,
web, and WEB.The general rule is to keep everything in lower case.
<Meta name="KEYWORDS" content="key phrase 1, key
phrase 2,.... ">
<Meta name="DESCRIPTION" content=" Your description">
Keywords / keywords density
Some search engines look for " keyword density ". Some will only look at the first 200 characters of
your site, and count the number of times the keyword appears. Some index a bit from the top, middle, and bottom
parts of your website, and search them for keywords. Generally keyword density should be in the 2-3% range. Simply
repeating the keyword will not work because some search engines consider grammar structure in their calculations.
Your strategic keywords must appear in the crucial locations on your web pages because search engines like pages
where keywords appear "high" on the page. They must appear in the first paragraphs of your page.

Description
This is the description that will show with your listing in the search engine. The description should make you
want to visit the site. The Meta Description tag is everything when your web page is on the top of search engines.
Do not just fill the description tag with keywords.But use them: create a smart description. Don`t be afraid use
words like "free", "secrets". Make visitors come to your web page. If a page does not have
a <META> description, search engines usually list the page's first dozen or so words instead.
ALT tags and comments
In the first two images on your website use ALT tags, and fill them with several important keywords in order of
importance. Never compromise the design of your page. If the visitors have their graphics switched off, they want
to see a short description of the image, not a list of keywords.
Do not not forget use the comments.Few search engines (Hotbot) index words that have been placed in comments tags.Do
not use the same word within the comments too many times (maximum 6 repetitions).
<!-- this is a comment, no visitors will see it- write your
keywords here -->
Spamming
It is the practice of using unethical or unprofessional techniques to try to improve search engine rank Avoid these
techniques:
* Invisible text (words written in the same color as the background ) and
tiny text.
* Keyword stuffing. The search engines can analyze your page and determine
whether the frequency is above a "normal" level in proportion to the rest of the words in the document.
* Do not use keywords that do not apply to your site's content.
* Do not optimize a page for top ranking, then put another page in its place
once a top ranking is achieved.Do not submit virtually identical web pages.
* Few search engines do not like pages that automatically redirect the user
to another page ( e.g. using META refresh tags, cgi scripts)
* Do NOT spamm search engines with submissions. Repetitive submission of
spammed pages may result in a permanent exclusion from search engine`s index.
