Yahoo
Yahoo is a directory of sites carefully categorized by human web-surfers. Yahoo does not look at keywords or meta
tags. Yahoo defaults to a search engine (Inktomi) in the event that the results of your search query are not listed
in their directory.
Submitting to Yahoo has long been one of the more frustrating experiences.
But Yahoo announced that for $199 you can purchase a guarantee from them saying they will review your site within
seven business days. This service is called Yahoo Business Express.
Payment does not ensure that a site will be listed or even exactly how it will be listed. The free submission service
still remains an option to all. Even if you choose Yahoo Business Express read these advices:
Don`t
bombard Yahoo with submissions. If you apply more than once a month, it will ignore you until the end of time. For
submiting your site go to the exact category you want and click the add url.
Do not try unprofessional tricks.Yahoo has employees visit the URL of submissions
to verify that the category you selected is appropriate and that the title and description are accurate.
The
title is very important. The Yahoo directory is organized by subject and it lists alphabetically. If you are submitting
a commercial site you must use your company name.It is very tempting to have an 'A' title or one that begins with
a symbol. Do NOT do that. You can do it only if your company name starts with a symbol or with "A". Otherwise,
Yahoo will ignore you.Make sure that the title is no longer than five words and not all capital letters. Your title
should not exceed 50 characters (including spacing).
The description is
also very important. Your description must not contain the name of your chosen category. Descriptions containing
only keywords will not be accepted. You need a complete and coherent sentence. Do not restate the title of your
site. The marketing language must be avoided in the description.
Searches on Yahoo will find your site if the search words appear
in the title, description or URL. Yahoo does search for strings, not words, so if you can embed keywords inside
other words, do it !
Yahoo lets you have
a 200 characters description. The practical maximum length is much less.Your description should be no longer than
the longest existing listing within your category.Yahoo often changes long descriptions after your site is listed
in their directory.
If your site does not look good, you won't get in no matter how many tricks or submissions you try. Their job is
to build their database with quality listings. |
